Feedback on Draft Strategy
The need for feedback
The Crown undertook the development of a draft New Zealand Ambulance Service Strategy by dedicating a team of officials with input from a cross-section of sector representatives. However well informed such a process may be, it was necessary for the draft Strategy to be consulted on widely to assure that all perspectives were taken into account.
Consultation on the Strategy
The Crown released the draft Strategy for consultation on 15 September 2008 and invited written comments. A communications plan related to the strategy included written letters to stakeholders, public announcements in the general press, announcements in specialty publications of stakeholder organizations and press releases. The consultation period closed on 12 December 2008 with the receipt of 67 written submissions.

Sector Engagement on the Strategy
The draft strategy envisaged a great deal of work to advance the vision. That work, however, had not been identified in an order of priority. Therefore, in a parallel process, NASO undertook to engage with sector representatives on the sequence of action steps that should be undertaken to advance the strategy.
Sector engagement occurred in a series of 15 meetings around the country with 419 attendees. In each meeting, participants were asked to identify the top three issues in the ambulance sector. These findings were then consolidated into group findings, and then groups were formed to explore those top issues further.
